WHY VOTE FOR THOM?
“As Family Court Judge, I want the same things for the children I see in court that I want for my own children and grandchildren: to be happy, healthy, and safe with opportunities to thrive.”
As a Family Court Referee: Thom has heard and decided well over 10,000 dockets since 2009. These cases involved domestic violence, custody/visitation disputes, alleged child neglect/abuse, and foster care review. Fewer than 6 cases were appealed where it was determined that each decision was correct and proper.
What’s A Family Court Referee?
The term is unfamiliar to many, but a Court Attorney-Referee is essentially an appointed judge. The same rules of evidence and procedure apply. With consent of the parties, a Referee is fully responsible to hear and decide the case just like a judge and has essentially the same responsibilities as a judge:
Hear and determine family disputes, including issuing temporary and permanent restraining orders; conduct settlement conferences and trials and other hearings in various child neglect and abuse proceedings; research and analyze complex legal issues; render various legal determinations or issue orders or other legal documents, including judicial opinions, confidential reports, memoranda of law, and other important court related papers; hearing and determining various court proceedings.
